Choose application requirements before judging frame prices. The expandable briefs below identify different risks for warehouses, workshops, hangars and storage buildings; they are planning scenarios rather than completed project claims.
Application briefs to expand
For a warehouse brief, list the storage system, vehicle routes, clear span, eave height and openings. A notional 24 m clear span may help communicate geometry, but it is a buyer input for checking, not an offered capacity. Request the design wind speed in m/s, ground snow load in kN/m² and locally required seismic basis. Reconcile purlin and girt spans with cladding support requirements. A low roof panel U-value alone does not describe the finished envelope: thermal bridge details and condensation strategy also need review.
A workshop can introduce crane actions, suspended services and frequent door cycles. Request equipment reactions and the serviceability limits required by the appointed engineer before comparing a portal frame solution. Bolted knock-down frames can pack efficiently and permit replacement, but erection accuracy and connection installation records matter. Shop-welded assemblies can reduce site operations while increasing bundle size. Neither approach is universally cheaper once freight, site access and inspection requirements are included. The buyer needs both suppliers to state the connection and erection scope.
Aircraft storage requires an opening schedule tied to actual operational clearances. Door supplier reactions, deflection tolerances and foundation interface details are early inputs, not post-order questions. A painted carbon steel system allows flexible treatment of large members but depends on surface preparation and maintenance access. Galvanized components require attention to cut edges and repaired weld zones. Exposure category and coating verification method should be stated in the specification; a general promise of corrosion resistance cannot establish service life at a coastal site.
Agricultural or general storage still requires a defined occupancy and contents description. A PIR sandwich panel may support a thermally efficient lightweight envelope; rock wool sandwich panel options may suit a different fire or acoustic strategy while increasing weight and demanding moisture control. EPS, PIR and mineral wool must be compared using relevant assembly evidence rather than a generic fireproof label. Temporary or relocatable classification does not remove local approval requirements. The fire resistance rating, door construction and panel junctions must be evaluated as a system by the responsible professional.
Turn the use into a supplier checklist
Provide drawings and operating requirements. An agreed brief helps expose technical qualifications that would otherwise be hidden within a price.
